Canada’s Maritimes One Week Road Trip
Hi Y'all!👋
If you're a fan of seafood 🦞 and beautiful landscapes, think no further than the Maritimes region of Canada!
Starting from New Brunswick and ending in Prince Edward Island, this road trip 🚗 is the perfect opportunity to make some life-lasting memories with your friends.
Last year, I had the opportunity to partake in such a wonderful trip with two of my friends on the roads of the Maritimes. Starting from Montreal, we made our way to Quebec City and then headed east to Moncton and Halifax.
Here’s a rough map of the itinerary. 🗺
Day 1: Begin the journey in Montreal, Quebec
🚗 Starting off the road trip is departing from Montreal. Heading towards Quebec City, there is a long road ahead of us.
Be sure to take regular breaks in rest areas near the highway. ⛽
Arriving in Quebec City, a few spots might warrant your attention. First, the well-known Chateau Frontenac and its nearby buildings from French heritage in the old Quebec City. 🏰
Venturing into the stone streets of the historic city will be a pleasant stroll for any history enjoyer.
For an inn recommendation, I would recommend La Concorde, a cheap but accommodating inn to stay. 🏨
Day 2: St. John, New Brunswick 🏛️
🏙️ Arriving in St. John, you can start with a visit to the New Brunswick Museum. Don't miss the Reversing Falls, a natural phenomenon where the river reverses its flow.
In addition, you can visit the Bay of Fundy in the Bay Ferry to enjoy the water view.
Recommendation: Enjoy a seafood feast at Grannan's Seafood Restaurant with a view of the falls.
Day 3: Moncton, New Brunswick
🛬 Arriving in Moncton, be sure to explore Magnetic Hill, where cars seem to roll uphill and don't miss the Magnetic Hill Zoo, an attraction that will surely be a blast for kids.
🌊 Head to Fundy National Park, a natural wonderland. For our nature enthusiasts, you can explore the park's trails and scenic lookouts. Hiking and exploring the national park might even lead to some animal encounters such as moose and bears.
Recommendation: Stop by the Alma Boathouse for fresh seafood. Their lobster rolls are a must-try!
Day 4: Hopewell Rocks
🏞️ The first stop at the Atlantic Ocean is the Hopewell Rocks. This attraction lets you experience the incredible tidal changes and their impact on the Hopewell Rocks. Be sure to arrive at low tide to walk on the ocean floor, then return at high tide to see the dramatic difference.
Day 5: Prince Edward Island 🏝️
🚗 Cross the Confederation Bridge or take a car ferry to go to Prince Edward Island. Do not miss a visit to the Anne of Green Gables Museum and the picturesque Prince Edward Island National Park where I had the chance to learn what the life of Lucy Mongomery was like back in the days. I also enjoyed the Basin Head beach on PEI’s Atlantic shore.
Recommendation: Dine at The Blue Mussel Cafe for a taste of local seafood and incredible water views.
Day 6: Halifax Exploration 🏘️
Exploring Halifax will lead you to Peggy's Cove 🌊, a timeless gem near Halifax, it will captivate you with its iconic and historic lighthouse. You will have the chance to head to the granite outcrop of Peggys Point, but be careful of the unpredictable waves that take many visitors each year.
Day 7: Back to New Brunswick and Quebec City 🌄
🚗 On your way back to Moncton for your departure, you can make a stop at the Acadian village of Memramcook, a nice town for tourists.
Also heading into Quebec City, be sure to pass by the Plains d’Abraham, a historic place for Canada.
Well, folks, this was my recommended trip that I took to the Maritimes of Canada.
This will be a memorable trip with some of your friends.
I cannot wait to hear about your experience there!
